Actually there is also a direct correlation with the mountain lion population and the lack of an adequate population control strategy. California is one of the few states with a mountain lion herd that does not allow hunting of this animal. There is clear evidence that the mountain lion is a signficiant reason for the dessimation of the black-tail deer herd in Northern California. With the reduction in the deer herd, the mountain lion expands the search for food. My vote is to open up a hunting season on mountain lions!
