Well, this is a problem. How can we REALLY say we hiked from Mexico then...
Hmmmm Options:
1. Come in a day early and take a day trip into Mexico. Find your way to
the PCT area on the Mexican side of the fence and walk it.
2. At the trail head, climb over the fence - run and touch Mexico and
run/climb back. A bit like PCT Capture the Flag. Of course, your schedule
should allow for one day of jail time and processing before resuming your
hike.
3. Look through the fence and wait for a Mexican National to wander by.
Get him/her to bring you some Mexican dirt. Shout, "Hola, bringo dirto por
favor" (frantic hand waving here helps). Mexicans are the only people I
know that don't care if you butcher their language as long as it is done
with a smile. If you spend anytime in Mexico, you will quickly learn that
they don't mind much of anything as long as it includes a smile - good
people to learn from.
