#1rule...NEVER sleep in the clothing you've worn all day....whether it
feels like it or not, it's been absorbing your body sweat all day. It
comes back to haunt you all night by cooling off in those clothes you
still have on, and then have the nerve too ask you to heat all that
(now) cooled off clothing back up! (convection, conduction?? I
forget) Get into dry clothing, read that 'unworn' clothes, and if what
you've worn all day won't dry out if left out at night (for example,
in the desert, where nights can be extremely cold compared to days,
but the night time air is usually dry enough to dry things left out),
then take it into your bag with you...but they should spend the
majority of the night down around your legs, not around your torso.
You'll start out warm in your sleeping bag, have freshly worn clothing
drying out in your bag and available to put on in the morning. A cup
of hot cocoa at bedtime warms your insides right before bedtime, and
it your stove is safe to light right beside your sleeping bag, a nice
hot cuppa Russian Tea or your favorite morning drink will begin to
warm you before you even crawl out of the sack As a winter camper
from years gone by, I can attest to these tactics, plus a hat on your
head to keep your feet warm. You shouldn't need to wear your jacket
all night this way either, tho you may want to sleep with it so it'll
be as warm as you are come morning.
Warm nights, Happy Trails...
