I replied to this thread last night; but I forgot to hit reply to everyone and it just went to KG...my apologies...here's my thoughts on this one more time....LOL....

Ok...enough lurking. I'm Maria (Ria) with the very, very, short, short hair. Just ask Chris--Ole' Three Toes. Chris is my hubby, and a member of this list; he says he has to buzz his hair so people can tell which one of us is the woman...LOL...I have my own theories on this; but that's for another list...LOL

I'm new, obviously, to this list; and a newbie with just day hiking experience. I've been lurking; listening and absorbing excellent info as Chris's re-supplier and part time hiker for his JMT hike in 2009. However; I've lived onboard a sailboat for 4 years and have cruised extensively. When you're out there cruising; it's nearly the same as back country hiking...very, very limited facilities. Having very short hair; you don't need a blow dryer and at sea, you have no electricity anyway; you can spray your hair with a water bottle;or take a solar shower and, surprise of all surprises...no one cares. No one even notices if you don't use that 'herbal shampoo' that leaves your hair smelling like Grandma's garden. And no one even looks at my pits or leg hairs. Baby wipes are wonderful for the pit issues; take up very little space and can be quite refreshing after a few days "out there". I did purchase a battery operated, compact, lady's razor for those times when I just had
to trim the growth because the itching was driving me mad.

We gals can get way too vain at times. When you get to be of a 'certain' age; you realize and embrace the freedom of letting go of what others may think and it becomes all about who cares? It's far more important to be out there; living life to the fullest and having the adventure of a life time.

Back to my lurking corner now...

  Maria
(who has no hiking moniker of yet).

OK, now how 'bout the gals? What do the gals do about their hair? Some
of us have rather long hair-- I know mine is waist length, and I have NO
plans to shorten it significantly before my hike. My husband would
absolutely sh*t if I came home with short hair. I know you can braid it,
pony tail it etc.....and for us gals, of course there is the inevitable
pit/leg hair issue......Do you all just "deal", or do you make
arrangements for removal every so often? Just curious......Leg hair/pit
hair drives me nuts, although mine tends to grow rather slowly and I
really don't have all that much of it, thanks to some Native American
heritage. It's still annoying after awhile.

Gals? Let's hear from you!!
