Switchback replies: Thanks, pal.? Now here is a way to use this tape that I usually do not talk about.? It is too cool.

When it is windy your tarp or tent can really bang around.? May be there are no good bushes or trees around to secure your shelter.? Of course, I use super light titanium shelter stakes like everyone else.? But I am always a little worried about the stakes coming loose with all the cord?tension from the wind.? So, you just cut a piece of this super light Velcro tape (Velcro One-Wrap) and make a simple loop.? Now you put a?heavy rock in it and?readjust the tape to fit snuggly around the rock and your shelter stake out loops.

Now you?have a super backup to the shelter stake.? It takes a lot of the load off the stakes.??You sleep soundly knowing that?regardless of all the wind, your shelter is nicely secured.? Simple.

I have done this for years and it works great in bad weather.? All for may be an ounce or so in weight.? I have these loops precut and attached to my tent before I go hiking.? You can reinforce your stakes this way in a few seconds.

As you know, it is hard to describe to folks who do not hike what the wind can be like out there.? That is why I carry foam ear plugs too.
