[pct-l] Where are maps useful

Most of the trail no map is needed. Follow the signs type of hiking. Distances to the next water source can be a big issue. Snow can also be a big issue. Where I've really needed the map is in unexpected locations. Where a river has overflowed it's banks and washed out the trail or a road crossing where the trail is offset a hundred yards or so. It nice to know that you are at least hiking in the right valley.
