Thanks, Barney Rubble -

I know how frustrating things can look from the trail bed itself - it can so
often look like nothing's being done. Check out the PCTA website for
volunteer opportunities, plus the Washington Trails Association & the PCTA
Mt. Hood Chapter - so much depends on where you're located geographically on
how much you can contribute in sweat equity.

Apologies accepted, and good luck on getting the facts. I'll do what I can
to help, although I'm somewhat out of the PCTA loop these days.

With respect to trail work activities being made "public" - well...they
likely _are_ publicized - but you have to be able to find out where to see
the "publication"! The PCTA website is one source, but I would imagine
emailing trail at pcta.org might lead you in the right direction.

Subject: [pct-l] RE.TRAIL MAINTENANCE

THANK YOU, for all you feedback! It is great to hear workers are in this
section of trail, doing trail work. Where were they exactly. Who was it and
how did they get a permit? I sure would be interested, in doing some trail
work hear myself. I find it hard to understand why this was not made public,
so some of us could have volunteered. This section of trail is in need of
thousands of man hours.

I would also like to apologize, I do not want to sound like I am bashing
the PCTA, Forest Service, or any one person at all. I would just like to
hear the facts from the top, not a bunch of second hand information.

I had 11 e-mails from people who feel the same. I also had a e-mail from
Bill Holt who says next time I am on the trail, I should lift a finger. I
agree Bill, but I am not even sure the forest service has issued a permit
for trail work in this area. So I am lifting a finger now, and trying to get
to the bottom of things. After all, I pay the PCTA yearly membership fees
for a reason. I want to protect and preserve the trail as well...

So thank you for forwarding my last message and please forward this one as
well.
