Several things are a plus for me with the BA mattress.

1)The un insulated version is substantially lighter than a similar sized
Thermarest. Weigh them some time, you'll see.

2) People tend to carry the Thermarest on the outside of their packs where
they are more subject to damage, even when in a stuff sack. This is probably
not a big deal with people who pack a lot, but tired novices tend to drop
their packs willy nilly & holes happen.

3) I can carry my BA within my pack, which makes it look much tidier & way
cool. I like that.

4) The un insulated version is, well, un insulated. In the summer, this is a
plus as I'm really trying to dissipate heat.

5) When it gets cool I carry one of those thin blue pads (on the outside of
my pack). This adds heat retention, plus an unbelievable level of comfort.
It's always worth the extra eight ounces.

6) When I'm carrying my blue pad out & my BA inside, the people who see me
on the trail are amazed at what an incredible stud I am to be able to sleep on
one of those God awful blue pads. They shake their heads in wide eyed wonder
as I pass by. They praise me by their silent reverential stares & whisper
quietly in awe as I zoom by.

7) They are cheaper than the Thermarests

8) You can paddle around lakes on them. Be prepared to get wet, but it's
possible & fun!

9) I feel like a when I was a kid sleeping out in my back yard while I'm
blowing them up. Puff puff puff - wow...my head is cold & my hair tingles!!

10) There is no # 10, but you were expecting one, weren't you?

Peace & Regards

Daniel
