[pct-l] Transitions lenses for thru-hike?

Here is one solution no one brought up at all.....extended wear contacts
and polarized sunglasses such as I wear. I also have transition lenses,
made down in AZ- they make em darker down there for some reason, and I
take those along in case my contacts don't agree with me for some
reason. My sunglasses are made by Panama Jim or some such- you can get
them at Costco for about 70 bucks, and they wrap around and work GREAT!!
(and are polarized, etc....)That way you don't have to take out your
contacts every night, and can just wear sunglasses when you need them,
using your glasses as back up, just in case something were to happen to
your contacts or your eyes were to need a "break" from the contacts. Of
course you carry a spare pair of contacts- or whatever you need to take
with. I use mini bottles for solution and toss the bigger bottle for
refill into the 'bounce box", to refill the mini bottles. Less weight,
lighter pack. You can pick up mini dropper bottles from the Backpacking
Light site online for very little. ;-)
I'm scared to death of having surgery done on my eyes- I have enough
medical problems to worry about without "elective" surgery. I'm
farsighted with astigmatism also. Stick a piece of velcro to your eye
glass case, and attach another to your strap somewhere, and no worries
about glasses breaking so much- your case is right there for you, as are
your glasses-whichever pair you choose to use. My sunglasses case have a
clip you can attach just about anywhere- makes those handy!
