Len,
 Be cautious about how you interpret the term "biodegradable". There has to 
be a good organic layer in the soil, with a sufficient amount of decomposing 
bacteria  in order for something to begin biodegrading. So, this would not 
be adequate for deserts and high alipine terrain that have loose and mostly 
inorganic soils. In theory, it would work well in temperate forests....
