I'm sending this to the list in case someone else might be interested in this info.
Here's a link to a shuttle service that runs daily between Medford and Klamath Falls. If you ask, they may let you off where the PCT crosses the highway (140?). This would put you about 25-30 miles south of Crater Lake.

Another option is to take the Amtrak train service to the tiny town of Chemult
Oregon (South from Portland or North from California) on the East side of the
mountains. The motel linked below offers shuttle service to Crater Lake for $.60/mile. From Chemult to the Crater Lake rim area is about 42 miles, so the charge would be about $50 even if they charged for the return trip. A bargain IMO.
