i've mentioned this many times on the list, but it bears repeating. if
you use hiking poles, realize that your hands are far more susceptible
to getting sunburned than if they're just dangling by your side. one of
my essential pieces of gear were my sungloves. i never hiked without
them. i used a pair made by sunprecautions, which were a bit pricey, but
they've lasted 3k+ trail miles and still have some life left in them.
they're very comfortable, and typically i'd leave them on all day,
without even thinking to take them off during breaks.
