Along those lines:

1.) When coming in to camp near sunset, please do not act like a drunken 
sailor.  Other backpackers are in the vicinity, already trying to sleep, and 
do not appreciate the noise.

2.) When overtaking a backpacker, as early as possible clear your throat or 
whistle or something.  Waiting until you are a few steps from the person and 
then releasing a booming greeting is not a considerate thing to do.

It is unfortunate that such behaviors exst on the trail, but with increasing 
numbers of people on it with the "party" attitude, it is, unfortunately, 
inevitable.

The bottom line is keep to yourself, and do not intrude on the solace some 
seek in the wilderness.
