I have been recommending for  several years the Petzl Zipka (Plus) LED 
Headlamp (see REI.com, Item  number 703012).  It cost around $40 and weighs around 3 
ounces with  lithium batteries.  These are the features I like:
1.  Good lighting options because of different  push button features.
2.  Compact carry size because of no strap.   This is important.
3.  Long battery life options.
4.  Great around camp and on the  trail.
5.  Comfortable to wear.
6.  Robust design.
 
Just my 2 cents worth.
