Monty,
I just got a '' PETZL TIKKA XP''  in my opinion the best light weight headlamp on the market for night hiking.  
I own several others including the  ''PRINCETON AURORA''  but they all are either to heavy,not bright enough or the beam is not concentrated enough. The ''TIKKA''  has all the features I was looking for for night hiking. It has a low, medium, high & extra high, concentrated or wide angle beams.
It weighs 2 oz. not including 3 AAA batteries. It even has a battery charge light.
It is rather expensive $ 40-50 but well worth it. Projected battery life is 100+ - hrs.
