Your priorities are in the right order. Ordinarily a societal guilt trip is laid upon the individual who neglects work to go hiking, as if serving corporations is the highest duty in life.

Today, there is another reason to go hiking and see the natural world. Two-thirds of the earth's ecosystems are in collapse, and the species extinction rate is 1,000 times the historical average. Earth currently is in the Sixth Mass Extinction event. That diversity of plant and animal life that makes this spec of dirt in space so special, is disappearing under our noses.

See it now, because it won't be here tomorrow.

I must admit that with so many people in the world wanting to kill us, it
makes me feel a little weird hiking and planning trips. I feel a little
decadent or may be like I have misplaced priorities. But I guess that is what the
trail is for. To let us get away and refocus our lives and perspectives. I
just don't know. I am still wrestling with this.
