Just met someone testing this theory..... On Sunday it was 106 in Burney,
113 in Redding 55 miles down the hill to the west.

My test subject left Burney at about noon, planning to walk / hitch to
Redding.

Just after 3pm, he arrived in Round Mountain, 22 miles from Burney, where
the temperature was now 108. He stopped at the 'Golden Bear' Store for
refreshment, where he bought a six pack.

Over the course of the next three miles, he consumed all six cans, and just
before 4pm was found unconscious on the roadside, just below 'The Fountain'
a 'non-potable' roadside spring.

Must have got too many calories!

He completed his journey to Redding by helicopter!

JMT REINHOLD WROTE-----Switchback, I drink to that!!!

JMT REINHOLD walked in and said good news for all ultralighters, recent
studies show beer may be a good substitute for water for endurance hikers.
Test results positively show that beer is very high in calories vs none for
water.
Read JMT Reinholds February 14, 2006 New Motivation for the trail post for
the specifics.
