Thanks for the perspective, Mike!  My 580-mile drive from Mt. Shasta to
Santa Clarita on Monday night after having hiked 10 miles with about 2500'
of elevation gain & loss is now in the lower echelon of the insanity scale.

Ceanothus (see-ah-no-thus) or California lilac:  Shrubs or small trees,
often with divaricate, sometimes spiny, twigs...[flowers] small but showy,
white to blue or purplish, sometimes lavender or pinkish, borne in terminal
or lateral panicles or umbellike cymes.
