Carolyn,

This PCT 50/50 is an annual event run on the PCT. Information about
the event can be found here:
http://www..ultra.com/

This is an out and back race almost entirely on the PCT. There are
actually two races, one of 50k and one of 50 miles. Both races start
at the Clackamas Lake Ranger Station. The 50k turn around is
somewhere near Twin Lakes. The 50 miler goes to Timberline Lodge and
back. You should expect about 100 runners in the 50k and maybe 90 in
the 50 miler. By the time they reach Timberline they'll be quite
strung out. There won't be a crowd arriving all at once. If you go
to the website and click on results, you can see the times for past
races and extrapolate arrival times for Timberline Lodge or anywhere
else along the route if you know the mileage. I ran in the 50k in
2003. I'm not sure what the contestants would think about a goat
encounter. The year I ran in this event one runner saw a cougar and
considered it the best part of the run.
