Linda,
I hiked the PCT in 2005 and went to Quincy via where the PCT crosses the
road....it is about a 1/2 hour drive to Quincy from where the trail crosses
the road. Yes, the PCT is easy to see where it crosses the road and it's a
great spot to meet someone, because there is ample space for safe parking
(with shade) and there is cell phone coverage, (depending on your cell
service provider though.) In regard to camping, head south down the road
about .25 mile where the road bends sharply to right and is bordered by
guardrails on each side. The road crosses a quick-flowing stream with good
water. Instead of crossing the stream on the road, walk down the hill to
cross the stream, (on the left side of the road if you are facing south),
and go up the hill about 30 yards. In a stand of small pine trees to your
left, there are a couple of old mines with a great place to set up camp with
ample shade.
Good luck!
