This is a trail report for anyone who is hiking or interested in trail conditions near the Belden area...

July 7th: it appears that Map Drawer is well on his way to Old station, and is reportedly at Drakesbad tonight. (Lasson Park), so he should get into Old Station tomarrow.
He is the 2nd thru-hiker going just north bound, as I was told.

I hiked Belden to Bucks Summit (1bout 18-19 miles of high country) on July 1st.

There is no snow that would hardly any thru-hiker down from Belden to Bucks Summit. My Guess is that there should be little problem with snow from Old Station to Belden, although I havn't actualy hiked it.

(if you were going South from Belden)
After Bucks Summit, you go down to the North Fork of the Feather River, and back up to La Porte Rd. Since this section is lower than Bucks Summit till you get to La Porte Rd. I would think it wouldn't have any snow at all. I believe La Porte Rd is higher than Bucks Summit, but the trail going up to it is one a ridgeline, so you don't have any north Facing slopes as you aproach La Porte Rd.

After La Porte Rd. to Sierra City, I think you go a little higher (than Bucks Lake Wilderness) and there will probaby be some patches of snow because of North facing slopes, and varied terrian.

Since the hike was on July 1st, and now its July 7th, I doubt any thru or section hiker will have much of any problem from Sierra City to Castla.

Good Luck to the Class of 2006!
