my take on this is that with something as complex as a pct thru-hike, a 
"cookie cutter" approach is not even possible. regardless of how much 
pre-hike research you do in terms of guidebooks, seminars, etc, the bulk 
of your time on the trail is STILL going to be spent facing your own 
problems and coming to your own conclusions. i don't think any amount of 
planning using the available resources can or will take that aspect 
away- at least that was my personal experience.
