Good morning, Daniel,
I've used the Northern Lites Quicksilver 30 since I retired my huge, old
wood and rawhide pair, and they seem to do a very good job. The Northern
Lites website has some guidelines for size vs. hiker weight, etc. My pair
weighs 45.0 ounces, but I could reduce that somewhat if I trimmed off the
unnecessary length of harness straps.
We are getting quite a bit of snow here on Mt. Hood, much to the
consternation of the rescue people looking for the three lost climbers.
After watching all of that news coverage I got my little packable snow
shovel out of the bottom of the closet and set it next to the snowshoes. I
haven't made a snow cave in years, so I'll do another one this year just for
fun. Fortunately most of the bears around here don't hibernate, they just
winter below the worst of the snowpack. so they won't be tempted to move
into a snow cave with me.
Enjoy the snow,
Steel-Eye
