Whoever suggested guns on the trail does not know what they're talking 
about. Guns are assult weapons. Totally useless for self defense. If you 
have time to pull out a gun you have time to turn and walk or run. Guns are 
heavy, illegal on the trail and the loud bang noise they make will wake up 
the other campers... try using a STORM WHISLE. They're also good for 
emergencies such as getting lost or breaking a leg.
