>Up around Skykomish there is a burn ban for all fires UNLESS they are in a metal firepit in a regulated Forest Service campground or on private property. Nothing out on the PCT or anywhere close is legal at this time. This will probably go through Sept of '06. This happens most years up here. Hopefully one house fire is all we will have this year.....actually forever. Please don't build a campfire when you stop for the night. The house you save may be mine !!!

I hear that! My favorite hiking area is on fire right now. The fire
was human caused. It was started on June 25th and they still only
have it 25% contained. It grew by another 60 acres yesterday and
funds to fight it are limited. It is threatening to go into the
National Park now and could even jump the river (like the last fire
did) take out a lovely old growth area called the "Shady Lane Trail"
only one mile of the Shady Lane trail was not logged in the past.
That remaining mile is beautiful old growth.

I hike in that area almost every week and now they say it will be
closed long after the fire gets put out because the slope is so
unstable that debris is going onto the road.
