This folder contains 88 topo maps covering the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mexican border through Mt. Whitney (Crabtree Meadow). The format is .jpg. The size is 8.5 x 11. The scale is one half-mile per inch. These were based on National Geographic Society TOPO! CA state series map data and Tom Reynolds' trail trace. Note that the trail trace is out of date in the area of Tejon Ranch, where the PCT has since gained a nominal (if less than optimal) easement). The trail trace may also be out of date in other places. Over more than 1200 miles of PCT travel, I've noted the Reynolds trace to be out of whack by a mile or more only twice thus far, in Northern California and Oregon.

The letter designations (A-G) correspond to the official PCT guidebook. The actual map numbers do not correspond to the maps in the guidebook. The waypoints are GPS coordinates I used in my own planning. The waypoints most often correlate with significant points in the PCT databook -- camps, water sources, key junctions and saddles. A few of them don't correlate to anything and are there only so I can have a GPS coordinate to check against every mile or two.

My practice has been to walk the PCT with these maps and a GPS device. I carry the relevant databook pages for the section, but not the guidebook. These maps will be ideal for you if you're also traveling with GPS but choose to go without the heavy and often useless guidebook.

If you can obtain high-quality laser-print paper or -- even better yet -- National Geographic plastic map-sheet printing paper -- you will have much better results than with plain copy paper, which tends to just suck up that color ink by the gallon.
